About this conference

Join us from December 2 - 5 in Omaha, Nebraska as we gather around the theme 'From the Plains to the Podium: Educators Lead the Way.' As educators and organizers, we know everyone has the power to transform themselves and their communities. What would it mean if the fear, distrust, and antipathy leading our society today were replaced with a belief in the fundamental value of every human being? We'll examine this thought-provoking theme from a variety of vantage points, including Dr. Tiffany Crutcher's keynote address on the fight to transform our criminal justice system, our panel discussion on how local unions are leading change through building community coalitions, and a panel highlighting the power of economic disruption to win for our students and communities. Our conference is organized around 4 pillars - Roots, Rise, Reach, and Rally - designed to ensure that everyone from rank-and-file members to seasoned local presidents walks away with actionable insights they can apply to work in their locals and the skills and resources they need to get it done! Roots: Absorb inspiration from the rich history of educator unionism and movements for racial, social, and educational justice and discover how the past can guide our work today. Rise: Grow leaders and members at every stage of their union journey through skills-based training designed by members, for members. Reach: Learn how local unions are expanding their power by organizing every member at every worksite, building community coalitions, electing members to public office, and more! Rally: Network and strategize with leaders and members from around the country who are dedicated to building the future of public education, right here, right now.
